About the Event

The FDYC Teen Mobile Media Bus serves approximately 10-12 individuals at a time through hands-on workshops in our new ‘social distancing compliant’ media tent classrooms, and through virtual workshops using our mobile wi-fi hotspot. Teens don’t have to sit in front of a computer screen all the time!

The bus and media tent classrooms provide on-site access to industry quality tools and technology such as HD cameras, microphones, computers, turntables, controllers, beat pads, etc. and state-of-the-art software such as FCPX, Serato Dj, Pro-Tools, etc. The Teen Mobile Media Bus brings all needed equipment & supplies directly to any site. This eliminates loading issues, having separate workshop supplies & spaces, locating or leaving gear at sites, the back and forth of storing & searching for electrical cords, tripods, camera cards, etc.

During this COVID Program, FDYC Teen Mobile Media Bus will be committing to each location for a few weeks, to provide students project based learning opportunities, and partner organizations flexible scheduling. This gives time to build skills, gain knowledge, practice problem-solving, work collaboratively, design & create, through complete music/video production projects from start to finish. Our media tent classrooms provide the needed physical separation of students so they can stay safe but still work together. More on-site, on-location training is thus available to our teens, who are suffering due to COVID-19 separation and reduced school resources.

The Teen Mobile Media COVID-19 Program opens the door to musical exploration for young people, providing teens with the tools to express themselves creatively, be adventurous with technology, and build confidence. Students get a taste for DJ'ing through the basics of mixing and scratching and how to make use of DJ software. They will also learn about music history, culture, and theory from a DJ'ing perspective. Students will also learn basic audio mixing and production skills, that they can apply to their own music or video productions.
